I'm smitten with Rumi!

Rumi was a sufi mystic and poet.  It is said he is the one who introduced whirling to the dervishes.  Because sufis were nomadic the act of whirling provided them with a temple in which to worship or pray, inside themselves.  I myself have practiced whirling and was profoundly affected by the stillness I found in the center of the whirling, as if I were that stillness in the center and it was everything else what was whirling.  I felt no dizziness in that space, just peace.  It also invoked a sense of knowledge of the illusory nature of all that is externally evident. If you spin and then stop notice how everything you see, the room, the sky, wherever you are, everything you see is moving, jumping about the page as if it were a movie being shaken up, a drunk attempting to stand, a thought attempting to right itself inside your mind. IT IS MOVING even when you are not.  It is the maya.
